TitanX super high performance radiator hits the road

Wednesday, March 24, 2010 - Mjallby
To tackle 2010 EPA standards, Navistar contracted TitanX to be the preferred cooling module supplier.  "In numerous vehicle tests, our Super High Performance (SHP) radiators have proven to be the optimal solution for this extremely demanding application," says Matt Moore, President of North American Operations at TitanX.

With the 2010 EPA standards taking effect, Navistar has made the decision to use Advanced EGR technology on their high horsepower engines to meet the new and more rigorous standards.  All of the other major engine manufactures world wide have decided to use Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to meet them.

The Navistar decision is fundamentally to cool exhaust gas with an EGR, call it "Cooler #1," cool it again with another EGR, call it "Cooler #2," and then burn this cooled exhaust gas in the combustion chamber of the engine.  Also, there are turbo chargers with an Inter-Stage Cooler, cooling the charge air between them.

The total heat rejection for the entire system, including the engine, the charge air cooler, the EGRs, the condenser, and the transmission is significantly higher than a similarly sized engine using SCR.

"The performance of the High Temp and the Low Temp SHP radiator cores, along with the TitanX's Charge Air Cooler technology, working together in a carefully balanced cooling module are the primary reasons for the cooling success of this project.  Without these new heat exchangers and the transparent communication between Navistar and TitanX this breakthrough module would not have been possible." Matt Moore continuous.

All manufacturing equipment is now installed at the TitanX plant in Jamestown, NY, and the first serial deliveries to Navistar have taken place. The plant is all set for a successful launch of the entire EPA 2010 Heavy Duty Cooling Module program for Navistar and all other customers.
